Morisset Hospital

I headed up to Lake Macquarie for a bike ride in the State Conservation  Area. I parked on the Lake at Morisset Hospital and rode out to Bird Cage Point and back. Just under 7klm all up.

Part of an old stone jetty? where I parked.

With Black Swans nearby.

Pourmalong Creek

As I rode from here out to the Point my eyesight went fuzzy and while I was puzzling this I rode into a black cloud of mosquitoes. Peddling up a slight hill I was breathing heavily and inhaled quite a few mossies and came to a sudden stop gasping and choking. My arms had turned black with them all  and I struggled on through the swarm trying not to breathe. After 100 metres they disappeared and it was clear again, while they patiently waited in the same spot for my return. My mother didn't raise no fool so I learnt to keep my mouth closed and pedaled through at speed but had to stop once past to clean them off my glasses. I have never seen such a storm of mossies like this.

Out on the point I could ride a loop along the foreshore.

With views across to Vales Point Power Station.

Once back at the car I had a coffee and biscuit with a solitary and well behaved kangaroo. While here an ABC reporter and cameraman were there to do a story on the kangaroos attacking tourists. On the way into the hospital I had noticed 30-40 kangaroos with tourists walking through the middle of the mob. The reporter told me that people had been badly cut on the face and stomach. Signs were everywhere to not feed the kangaroos.

I then went for a walk with the bird lens along the lake.

The old baths.

When I got back to the car a carload of chinese tourists pulled up and a mob of kangaroos appeared from nowhere. Can they recognise tourists?  The driver came down to talk to me and I warned him of the kangaroos behaviour.  After this one of the girls was feeding the roos and taking selfies. The big make kangaroo (who could stand taller than me) muscled in a demanded food. He grabbed her around the head and scratched her face. As her friends all rushed in to drag her away the roo stood back on his tail and gave her a good kick in the stomach. They all quickly jumped in the car and sped off. The roos all then wandered off and left me on my own.

An interesting morning.

Burragorang Lookout

The Mushroom Tunnel at Picton was closed so having time on our hands we drove out to Nattai and the Burragorang Lookout.
A Hazy day caused, I think, by the smoke from all the hazard burns in the Sydney/Blue mountains region.
The Lookout is on the Wollondilly River arm of lake Burragorang, which is the stored water from Warragamba Dam.

Looking south along the Wanganderry Walls in Nattai National Park

The bay on the left/east under the lookout is where the Nattai River joins the Wollondilly.

The second bay on the right/west of the Wollondilly is where the Tonalli River enters from Yerranderie

Looking north.
The phone camera with its HDR setting seem to cut through the haze better.

A lovely lookout with plenty of parking and picnic areas.

Maldon Suspension Bridge

A short walk down to  the old Maldon Suspension Bridge. I remember driving over this when I was a little younger. The river ,of course, is the Nepean. Has been closed to traffic for years and now fallen into complete disrepair since a fire. (started by vandals  I think)  We walked in from the Maldon side as we were in Picton. I think if you approach from the Wilton side it might be better and have some access to the river.

Screened views of the river and weir

Nervous

I assume it will just completely disappear over time.

Nuggan Point

On the way home from Batemans bay I stopped just up the coast a bit at Bawley Point and walked to Nuggan Point and the entrance to Meroo Lake  in Meroo Natiional Park.

Parking at the end of the road at Willinga Point I walked North Beach to Nuggan Point.

Views north to Meroo Head

Mooring ring on the rocks at Nuggan Point

Twisted coastal forest

The closed mouth of Meroo Lake

Then on the way back, rather than walk the beach I took the track behind the foreshore dunes and on to Willinga Lake.

A calm and serene walk of 6klm. One day I'll have the time to make this a full day walk and fish the rocks and lakes.

Morning Walk

I'd had a big couple of days  and was knackered, so I shouted myself a motel and a club bistro meal rather than camping. Very ordinary but I did get a good nights sleep. A great cup of coffee and a bacon and egg roll on the water at Batemans Bay and I was ready to start the day,

Then off for a morning walk on Denhams, Surf and Wimbie Beach

An easy 4.5klm on a beautiful morning.
