Geehi and the Western Fall

Geehi is south of Thredbo past Tom Groggin and the Murray River. It sits on the Swampy Plains River at the base of the Western Fall of the Snowy Mountains. Unlike the north and east approach to the Snowy Mountains the Western Fall is quite abrupt and looking up at the main range is more imposing and feels more like mountains.
Five huts have been built as fishing lodges along the Swampy Plains River here.

The Western Fall

The first crossing of the Swampy Plains River. Deeper than it looks but drove through  no problems.

Walked from Keebles Hut to Old Geehi Hut which was only 4klm return.
The crossing of the Swampy Plains River. Wet shoes on this one.

Mt Townsend from Geehi. The second highest mountain in Australia.

Back at Geehi, not the best time for long exposure photos as looking straight into the late arvo sun.

Rainbow Lake

Rainbow Lake is a small dam built to supply water to the old Kosciusko Hotel which has burnt down and no longer exists. It was on the other side of the creek from what is now Sponnars Chalet. The walk to the Lake is through pleasant wooded country and only 3.5klm return.
