Cave Creek and Woodhouse Creek Circuit

Cave Creek in Bargo River State Conservation Area is at Hill Top in the Southern Highlands. The walk to the Cave is on a well formed track and is about 2.4klm return. In one of my bushwalk guide books ( Robert Sloss, Nattai) a continuation from the cave on Cave Creek takes you over the ridge to Woodhouse Creek and loops up a fire trail back to Hill Top. The middle part of this walk was more a route than a track, which although easy to follow had a lot of downed timber and obstacles and was steep in places. The loop through Hill Top and back down Wilson Drive to Cave Creek carpark made it a total of 7.7klm.

The entrance to the cave.

looking into the cave from the entrance.

A little further in the cave you can look down to the exit. At this point the cave floor was dry, but you could hear water running and falling over the drop into the pool at the exit.

Back towards the entrance.

After walking back out and aroun the cave you drop down into the creek gorge and a Coachwood forest. There had been little rain for the last month but the creek here was still flowing . (The day after this visit there was a rain event with 133mm of rain over the weekend which would have flooded the whole gully.)

The cave exit and water dripping into a small pool.

The crossing of Woodhouse Creek, a little on the rough side.

A nice rock overhang  on the ridge.

The Woodhouse Creek section of this walk was not really picturesque and I would not bother walking again just to loop back to the car.
