The Myalls

After walking the Mungo Track and staying at a motel in Tea Gardens I drove back to Mungo Brush in the morning and walked the Rainforest Loop.

I then went back to Boomeri campground as I wanted to ride part of the Old Gibber Road which runs up to Seal Rocks. This was in part to see if it was feasible for my next section of walking the coast to ride from Seal Rocks and then walk back along the beach. The Old Gibber Road is a good dirt road and I rode through to Shelley Beach. Talking with a group of bike riders here I was told that it is a well graded dirt road all the way to Seal Rocks.

Shelley Beach is a pleasant spot on Myall Lake which is the northern most lake of the 3 which makes up the Myalls.

The bike riders I met told me that I must visit Johnstone's hill and Beach for views over the whole system. After climbing Johnstone's Hill I found the old paddocks full of weeds and the views limited. I was not prepared to walk through the weeds to find a better view. As it was I was covered in Cobblers Pegs (Bidens pilosa) which took me ages to pull out of my shoes, socks and pants.

Johnstones Beach is on Boolambayte Lake and is a pretty campground only accessed by boat or foot.

Back at the car after my 25klm bike ride and 2klm walking I still had some time before I had to leave so I took a walk across the dunes to Dark Point. I have always liked this walk but this time the strong wind blowing the sand at me sort of took the edge off.

Broughton Island. One day I'll organise a boat across and camp and walk there.

An easy, though windy, 2.5klm return across the dunes
