Goulburn Bike Ride

Having a little trouble with my left knee and the chiro/physio wants me to stay off it for a while. So that meant a bike ride was in order.  I drove down to Goulburn and parked at the Visitor Centre. The first ride was took me in a loop along the Mulwaree River and the Goulburn Wetlands and on to the cemetery where William Hovell was buried. Of course I had to revise the route on the way because the  Lansdowne bridge over the Mulwaree River was closed for repairs.

Looking back to Goulburn Station.

At the Wetlands. The wetlands covers the old brickworks and is still in the process of being revegetated. I was told that the water level was down as they had  to pump water out of the ponds for the grasses and plants.

They have had good breeding success this year with many species raising young.

Looking up at the War Memorial Tower from the wetlands.

After following the Mulwaree River past the golf course  the path passes under the railway viaducts.

With views back to the War Memorial.

Following the old rail line

Then a couple of cemeteries.

William Hovell  together with Hamilton Hume was one of the early explorers who opened the area up and forged a route south to Melbourne.

The cemetery is located next to the Goulburn Super-max Gaol.

I drove up to the Tower which has a nice display as you climb the stairs to the viewing area on top. Unfortunately this room was full with a school excursion and I didn't stay long.

Views over Goulburn from the base of the tower.

I then drove to Marsden Weir on the Wollondilly River and rode out to the old Waterworks and then along the completed first section of the Wollondilly River Walk

A very pleasant day of perfect weather for two ride totalling 21klm.
