Retford Park

Another quiet, leisurely day with a visit to an open garden. Retford Park is now run by the National Trust. Gifted to the Trust by James Fairfax the house was originally built in 1887 by Samuel Horden. The garden was open but not the house.
Not a huge floral display but lovely park like grounds with magnificent trees.

We had taken a picnic to have in the grounds and rather than set up the picnic rug under a tree we were invited by one of the caretakers to partake of our lunch an the table on the verandah of the house. Very landed gentry.

A Monkey Puzzle Tree. I had heard of these trees but never seen one before.

And an enclosure for emus to roam through the garden.

A nice day out indeed.
