Bells Canyon

After driving up from the Colo River through Mountain Lagoon we headed for the Newnes Plateau to camp for the night. After cooking up a nice Dhal for dinner we settled down with a few beers to talk and listen to music. Dylan gave me a few short lessons in playing the harmonica but I was glad there was no one around to here the results. A fire ban on the plateau so no fire to sit around but it was a warm night.
Next morning after a bit of a sleep in we woke to a dark cloud front heading in from the west.
We drove on to the Glow Worm Tunnel and after walking through turned up into Bells Canyon. I had been to the tunnel numerous times before but had never turned up into the canyon.

An easy walk through a lovely canyon section.

Huge overhangs along the canyon floor.

It still hadn't rained by the time we got back to the car and the mist didn't close in till halfway back along the plateau. By the time we got back to Clarence it was raining. We stopped for lunch in Blackheath where it was pouring. A pub lunch at the New Ivanhoe which was very ordinary. We watched a lot of other diners coming back and cancelling there order as they had been waiting over an hour for their food. I have been here many times before and have stayed at the pub when the weather was not conducive to camping and this is the first time that the food and service has been poor. The heavy rain continued as we drove back down the mountains.
